Hana-Karakusa (花唐草), the classic pattern of flowers on scrolling vines, on a side-handle kyusu.
The Hana-Karakusa Kyusu is a side-handle teapot in Hasami porcelain, with a deep blue ground covered in white scrolling vines and pale flowers with gold-coloured centres. The spout and handle are a pale blue-green, a flower sits on the end of the handle and a thin gold-coloured band circles the shoulder. It holds 300 ml and has a ceramic strainer and a basket strainer. It matches our Hana-Karakusa Yunomi, and the pot and two cups come together in the Hana-Karakusa Japanese Tea Set.
Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasami-yaki) hails from the town of Hasami in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, with a ceramic tradition spanning over 400 years. Today, Hasami remains one of Japan's top three regions by shipment value for everyday tableware, valued for its durable, easy-to-use porcelain.
Made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 300 ml
Strainer: ceramic, with a basket strainer
Care: empty the leaves after each pot, rinse with hot water only, no detergent, and dry with the lid off.
Please note: glaze and colour vary slightly from pot to pot.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese teapots, or read how to choose a kyusu if this is your first pot.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
