Organic Sencha (Green Tea) – Chiran, Kagoshima

Experience the vibrant character of southern Japan with our Organic Kagoshima Sencha from Chiran — one of Japan's most renowned tea-growing regions.

Sourced from 100-year-old tea farms and grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers, this first-flush organic green tea is carefully shaded for 7–10 days before harvest to enhance natural sweetness and deepen umami.

Chiran sits on Kagoshima's volcanic plateau, where ash from the region's volcanoes has built a deep, mineral-rich soil — part of what distinguishes tea from the far south.

Deep-steamed (fukamushi style), it produces a bright green liquor with a smooth body, balanced sweetness, and reduced astringency. Clean, refreshing, and easy to enjoy across multiple infusions.

How to Brew Tea (Hot)

Important: Always bring fresh water to a full boil first, then allow it to cool to the recommended temperature before brewing.

1. Add 6g (approx. 1 tbsp) of tea leaves to a kyusu or teapot.
2. Pour 240ml water cooled to 70–80°C.
3. Steep for 30–40 seconds.
4. Pour completely and enjoy.

For subsequent infusions, steep briefly and slightly increase the water temperature each time. A Tokoname kyusu and a yuzamashi make both steps easier.
