About Us

Taka Kaneko, founder of EdoMatcha
Founded by Taka, a Certified Japanese Tea Instructor

Bringing organic Japanese matcha and loose-leaf tea to Australia — sourced direct from trusted farmers and artisans, because tea is personal, and quality matters.

Born in Australia, raised in Japan

I'm Taka, founder of EdoMatcha — born in Australia, raised in Japan. I'm a Certified Japanese Tea Instructor (NPO Nihoncha Instructor Association) and the first instructor based in Sydney.

After moving back to Sydney, I realised how hard it was to find genuine organic Japanese tea in Australia. So I built direct relationships with trusted tea farmers and skilled artisans in Japan.

Today, we offer a carefully curated selection of organic Japanese matcha, loose-leaf tea, and handcrafted Japanese teaware in Australia. Thanks for being part of our tea journey.

With warm regards,
Taka & Holly Kaneko

Taka was interviewed by The Guardian on Australia's matcha boom, and on how to prepare matcha properly at home — August 2026.

Our Mission

We bring certified organic Japanese matcha and loose-leaf teas to Australia, along with authentic handcrafted Japanese teaware.

Our goal is simple — to share genuine Japanese tea culture and help you create moments of calm, clarity, and connection in everyday life.

Our Values

Only about 5% of Japan's tea production is certified organic — which is why we carefully source genuine organic tea you can truly trust.

We work with artisans in Japan's historic craft regions: Tokoname in Aichi for our kyusu teapots, Mino in Gifu for our whisk holders, and Takayama in Nara for our chasen — where the workshop that makes them supplies no other stockist in Australia.

Why "Edo" Matcha?

"Edo" was the historic name of Tokyo during the Samurai era — reflecting our respect for Japanese tradition, discipline, and cultural heritage.

I practised Kendo during my school years, a martial art rooted in the same spirit of respect and focus that inspires EdoMatcha today.
