Organic Ceremonial Matcha: Ujitawara, Kyoto
Grown in the birthplace of Japanese green tea, this matcha from Ujitawara, Kyoto, represents centuries of tradition in every bowl. It is made from ichibancha, the year's first harvest, which is where its sweetness and soft umami come from, and what proper ceremonial grade is supposed to mean.

Why this matcha stands out:
- First harvest (ichibancha), the year's first picking, the youngest and sweetest leaf. Why that matters more than the grade label
- JAS-certified organic, no pesticides, no synthetic fertilisers, verified by Japanese and international bodies. Only around 5% of Japan's tea production is certified organic.
- Shade-grown for at least 20 days, deveined, and stone-ground to a micro-fine powder
- Vivid emerald colour with a smooth, mellow sweetness and soft umami, minimal bitterness
- Sourced directly from Ujitawara farms by Taka, a Certified Japanese Tea Instructor

Perfect for: Traditional whisked matcha (usucha & koicha), matcha lattes, and anyone serious about what they drink.

How to Make Matcha
Important: Always bring fresh water to a full boil first, then allow it to cool to the recommended temperature before brewing.
1. Warm your bowl
Pour hot water into your bowl to warm it, then discard the water.
2. Add matcha
Sift 1.5 to 2g, about two chashaku scoops, into the bowl.
3. Pour hot water
Add 60 to 80ml at 70–80°C. Boiling water scorches matcha and turns it bitter.
4. Whisk until frothy
Whisk briskly in an “M” shape, a zigzag, not a circle. Slowly at first and then vigorously, until a smooth, fine foam forms. Work from the wrist and keep the tines just off the base of the bowl.
5. Enjoy immediately
Sip, savour, and enjoy your freshly whisked matcha.
The ratio is what most first-timers get wrong. Too little powder and the bowl tastes watery; too much and it turns thick and astringent.

I've been buying this Matcha for over a year now. I'd highly recommend it for the consistency and flavour.
The delivery is always fast and the team are lovely to speak with.
Thank you, Chels. Over a year now, which honestly means more to us than any single review. Consistency is the hard part with tea. It's an agricultural product and every harvest is a little different, so we buy from the same family in Ujitawara year after year rather than shopping around for whatever's cheapest. Thank you for sticking with us.

The best Matcha I have ever tasted and delivery was super quick
Thank you, Shayne. That's a big call and I'm grateful for it. Fast delivery and good matcha is all we're really trying to do.

My fav matcha - complex in flavour and delicious hot or iced
Thank you, Wesley. It does hold up iced, which not every matcha manages. The flavour has enough behind it to survive the cold. Glad it's your go-to.
