Ryū-e (龍絵), the dragon pattern, on a dobin: the top-handled Japanese teapot made for pouring round the table.

The Dragon Kyusu is a 500 ml dobin in pale blue-white Hasami porcelain. A blue dragon runs across the belly of the pot, a matching blue ring circles the lid, and a woven handle arches over the top on two black metal hooks. Inside sits a removable mesh basket, so loose-leaf sencha, genmaicha or hojicha can be brewed straight in the pot and the leaves lifted out the moment the tea is right. A dobin holds more than a side-handle kyusu, which makes this the pot for three or four cups at once. It matches our Dragon Yunomi, and the two come together in the Dragon Japanese Tea Set.

Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasami-yaki) comes from the town of Hasami in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, with a ceramic tradition of more than 400 years. Today Hasami is still one of Japan's top three regions by shipment volume for everyday tableware, valued for durable, easy-to-use porcelain that is consistent from piece to piece.

Made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.

Volume: 500 ml, measured brim-full
Infuser: removable mesh basket
Handle: woven, over the top

Please note: glaze and colour vary slightly from pot to pot.

Ships Australia-wide and worldwide from our Sydney studio, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese teapots.

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
