Ryū-e (龍絵), the dragon pattern. A blue dragon winds its way around this small white porcelain cup.
The Dragon Yunomi is a sencha cup in white Hasami porcelain with a cobalt-blue dragon curling around the body: whiskers streaming, claws out, scales and mane picked out in the style of old sometsuke ware. A thin brown line finishes the rim and two blue rings mark the foot. At 130 ml it holds one proper serving of sencha or gyokuro, the size used at a Japanese tea table when the pot goes round more than once. Two make a pair, and it is the cup that comes with our Dragon Japanese Tea Set.
Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasami-yaki) comes from the town of Hasami in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, with a ceramic tradition of more than 400 years. Today Hasami is still one of Japan's top three regions by shipment volume for everyday tableware, valued for durable, easy-to-use porcelain that is consistent from piece to piece.
Made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 130 ml

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
