Yamazakura (山桜), meaning mountain cherry. Cherry blossom on dark clay, on the front and the lid.
The Yamazakura Kyusu is a Tokoname teapot in a dark charcoal clay, with white and pale pink cherry blossoms, green leaves and a red branch across the front, and a spray of blossom on the lid. The back is plain. Inside sits a removable stainless basket strainer with a white tab: lift it out to empty the leaves in one go. The side handle is held in one hand with the thumb resting on the lid, so pouring to the last drop is a turn of the wrist.
Tokoname, in Aichi Prefecture, is one of Japan's six ancient kiln towns, with about 900 years of kiln history.
Made in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 380 ml
Care: empty the leaves after each pot, rinse with hot water only, no detergent, and dry with the lid off.
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from pot to pot.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese teapots, or read how to choose a kyusu if this is your first pot.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
