Take, meaning bamboo. Straw-gold drips over a black glaze.
The Take Chawan is a Mino ware matcha bowl in a glossy black glaze with a thick band of straw-gold and olive glaze poured around the rim, running down the outside in drips of uneven length like bamboo stalks. The black inside carries a fine metallic speckle, and whisked matcha glows almost neon against it. At 12 cm across and 7.5 cm high it gives the whisk plenty of room and sits comfortably in two hands.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Diameter: 12 cm
Height: 7.5 cm
Please note: glaze, colour and size vary a little from bowl to bowl. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of matcha bowls, or read Know Your Chawan if you are choosing your first bowl.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
