Shiro-Nagashi, meaning white flow. A pale ivory glaze with soft bands drifting through it.
The Shiro-Nagashi Chawan is a Mino ware matcha bowl in a pale ivory glaze with faint bands of grey-green drifting around the body where the glaze flowed in the kiln, over a warm sandy clay that shows at the foot. The inside is the same soft cream, so the colour of your matcha shows honestly against it, which is useful when you want to see exactly how vivid your powder is. At 12 cm across and 7.5 cm high it gives the whisk plenty of room and sits comfortably in two hands.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Diameter: 12 cm
Height: 7.5 cm
Please note: glaze, colour and size vary a little from bowl to bowl. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of matcha bowls, or read Know Your Chawan if you are choosing your first bowl.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
