Ori, meaning Weave.

Tokoname ware, also known as Tokoname-yaki, is a type of Japanese pottery that originated in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture in central Japan. It is one of Japan's oldest and most renowned ceramic traditions, dating back over 1,000 years.

The Ori Kyusu is handcrafted by Gyokko, a potter based in Tokoname whose work we had the privilege of visiting in person. Its surface is finished with a fine, woven-like texture, pressed by hand across the entire body and lid, evoking the look and feel of traditional textile weave. Left in its natural, unglazed sandy clay tone, the piece embodies the wabi-sabi spirit of Tokoname ware — understated, tactile, and made to be used and appreciated over time.
