Miryō, meaning mesmerising. Waves curling over the body and lid.
The Miryō Kyusu is a Mino ware teapot in a white glaze covered in a pattern of curling waves in fine dark blue-green lines, above a band of bare tan clay at the foot. Unlike our side-handle pots it has a handle at the back, opposite the spout, the way a Western teapot does, and a domed lid with the same waves. A wide stainless mesh basket sits inside for brewing loose leaf, and it lifts out the moment the tea is right. At 450 ml it pours three or four cups, a pot for a table. It carries the same wave pattern as our Miryō Yunomi.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 450 ml
Care: empty the leaves after each pot, rinse with hot water only, no detergent, and dry with the lid off.
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from pot to pot. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese teapots, or read how to choose a kyusu if this is your first pot.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
