Kurage means jellyfish. The glaze earns the name: soft amber and bronze bands drift and streak over a near-black body, pooling where the fluting runs, so no two pieces break quite the same way.
Think of it against the cost of what it protects. A chasen is a consumable. Hand-carved bamboo that softens and eventually loses tines, and that is the whisk doing its job. What you control is how fast. A whisk that is primed before use, rinsed straight after, and dried on a stand lasts a great deal longer than one left damp in a drawer. This is the cheapest thing you can do for it.
Mino ware, made in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Sized for our standard 80-tate chasen. Full care instructions are in our matcha whisk guide.
