Mori, meaning forest. A deep olive green, glossy as wet leaves.
The Mori Chawan is a Mino ware matcha bowl in a glossy deep olive-green glaze that pools darker in the throwing ridges ringing the body, with a gently uneven rim and a dark foot. The inside is the same olive green, so it is the foam you watch rather than the colour, and the bowl disappears into the tea. At 12.5 cm across and 7.5 cm high it gives the whisk plenty of room and sits comfortably in two hands.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Diameter: 12.5 cm
Height: 7.5 cm
Please note: glaze, colour and size vary a little from bowl to bowl. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of matcha bowls, or read Know Your Chawan if you are choosing your first bowl.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
