Ishi Machi, meaning stone town. A pale crackle glaze over the whole bowl.

The Ishi Machi Chawan is a Tokoname matcha bowl in a pale grey-white glaze covered in a fine crackle, the network of lines running over the whole surface like the map of an old town, with a dark clay foot. The inside is the same pale crackled cream, so the colour of your matcha shows honestly against it. At 12 cm across and 7 cm high it gives the whisk plenty of room and sits comfortably in two hands.

Tokoname, in Aichi Prefecture, is one of Japan's six ancient kiln towns, with about 900 years of kiln history.

Made in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

Diameter: 12 cm
Height: 7 cm

Please note: glaze, colour and size vary a little from bowl to bowl. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.

Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of matcha bowls, or read Know Your Chawan if you are choosing your first bowl.

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
