Tōhō, meaning eastside. Cream stripes on dark clay, with a glossy blue-black rim.
The Tōhō Yunomi is a Mino ware mug in a dark brown clay brushed with vertical cream stripes, a glossy blue-black band at the rim and an amber gloss on the top of the handle. The inside is glossy black, so the cup rather than the tea is the show. At 300 ml and 8 cm tall it holds its heat, the evening cup for hōjicha or genmaicha.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 300 ml
Diameter: 8.5 cm
Height: 8 cm
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
