The tall, thick-walled cup you are handed at a sushi counter, big enough that the tea keeps you company through the whole meal.

The Sushi Yunomi is a 320 ml Mino ware cup, 9.5 cm tall, with a pale blue and cream glaze poured down over dark iron-brown patches on a sandy stoneware body, so the surface reads like bark or weathered stone. The unglazed foot shows the clay, the inside is a clean off-white, and the walls are thick enough to hold the heat of a big cup of tea while keeping your fingers comfortable. It is the everyday size for bancha, genmaicha and hojicha, and the right cup for anyone who drinks tea by the mugful.

Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.

Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

Volume: 320 ml
Diameter: 8.5 cm
Height: 9.5 cm

Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.

Ships Australia-wide and worldwide from our Sydney studio, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups.

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
