Shiro Danro, meaning white fireplace. Soot spots on a white mug.
The Shiro Danro Yunomi is a straight-sided Mino ware mug in a matte white glaze splattered with brown-black spots, large and small, like soot from a fire, with the spots continuing inside. The inside is white. A pale inside shows the colour of the tea honestly, so you can judge a sencha at a glance. At 270 ml it is a mug for sencha through the morning or hōjicha in the evening.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 270 ml
Diameter: 8.2 cm
Height: 7.8 cm
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
