Sazanami, meaning Small Ripples.

Tokoname ware, also known as Tokoname-yaki, is a type of Japanese pottery that originated in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture in central Japan. It is one of Japan's oldest and most renowned ceramic traditions, dating back over 1,000 years.

The Sazanami set is handcrafted by Gyokko, a potter based in Tokoname, and finished in shudei clay with a fine, rippling texture pressed by hand across the entire surface — evoking small ripples across water. This set includes a shiboridashi and two matching yunomi cups, ideal for sharing a pot of tea with a guest.

A shiboridashi is a lidless, handleless teapot traditionally used for brewing delicate Japanese green teas such as gyokuro and premium sencha. Its wide, shallow shape allows the leaves to unfurl gently and steep evenly, while the wide rim makes it easy to pour without a spout catching drips — a simple, elegant design favoured by tea connoisseurs.

Made in Tokoname, Japan by Gyokko

  • 2 x Yunomi cups, 25ml each

Please note: The shape, colours, and capacity of each piece may vary, a testament to their individuality and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each piece.
