Sachi Yunomi. Orange flowers on a pale grooved cup.
The Sachi Yunomi is a tall Mino ware teacup in a pale blue-white glaze with vertical grooves that give the fingers a hold, hand-painted with orange-red flowers and small blue leaves, with a pale beige inside. A pale inside shows the colour of the tea honestly, so you can judge a sencha at a glance. At 360 ml and 9 cm tall it is a big cup that holds its heat, for an evening hōjicha or genmaicha.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 360 ml
Diameter: 8.5 cm
Height: 9 cm
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
