Neko, meaning cat. Cats and paw prints on a pale cup.
The Neko Yunomi is a tall Mino ware teacup in a pale grey-white glaze with black cats walking, sitting and stretching around it, paw prints between them, and a white inside. A pale inside shows the colour of the tea honestly, so you can judge a sencha at a glance. At 190 ml and 6.5 cm across it is a slim cup that holds its heat, for sencha poured again and again.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 190 ml
Diameter: 6.5 cm
Height: 8 cm
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
