Kōyō, meaning autumn. Leaves in green and red on speckled cream.

The Kōyō Yunomi is a Mino ware teacup in a speckled cream glaze, hand-painted with broad leaves in deep green and one in red-orange, their veins scratched through to the clay. The inside is pale, with the rings of the potter's wheel showing through the glaze. A pale inside shows the colour of the tea honestly, so you can judge a sencha at a glance. At 260 ml it is a sencha cup you refill through the morning, and it suits an evening hōjicha too.

Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.

Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

Volume: 260 ml
Diameter: 7.5 cm
Height: 7 cm

Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.

Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
