Kinpai, meaning golden cup. Rows of dark marks under an amber glaze.
The Kinpai Yunomi is a wide Mino ware cup with a glossy black handle, in an amber-gold glaze cut with rows of small dark chattered marks that catch the light, a black rim and a glossy black inside, so the cup rather than the tea is the show. At 240 ml and 8.6 cm across it is a wide sencha cup, or a generous evening hōjicha.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 240 ml
Diameter: 8.6 cm
Height: 6.7 cm
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
