Kazan, meaning volcano. Rough as lava, graded from ash to rust.

The Kazan Yunomi is a Mino ware teacup with a rough, gritty surface that grades from a pale olive-yellow glaze at the rim through purple-brown to a rust-brown foot, like cooled lava. The inside is a glossy dark brown with the pale glaze ringing the rim, so the cup rather than the tea is the show. At 230 ml it is a sencha cup you refill through the morning, and a good hōjicha cup in the evening.

Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.

Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

Volume: 230 ml
Diameter: 8.3 cm
Height: 7 cm

Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.

Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
