Hyakka, meaning a hundred flowers. Chrysanthemums crowded over deep blue.
The Hyakka Yunomi is a Mino ware cup with a handle, its body covered in white chrysanthemum-like flowers drawn over a deep blue ground, with a band of bare tan clay at the foot and a pale grey-white inside. A pale inside shows the colour of the tea honestly, so you can judge a sencha at a glance. At 240 ml it is a sencha cup you refill through the morning.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, produced in the Gifu Prefecture region for over 1,300 years and known for the sheer variety of its glazes and techniques.
Made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Volume: 240 ml
Diameter: 8.6 cm
Height: 6.7 cm
Please note: shape, colour and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. That is the nature of handmade Japanese ceramics.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups, or a kyusu to pour from.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
