Hanaizumi (花泉) — meaning flower spring, the image conjured by colour breaking across the glaze like blossoms rising from water.
The Hanaizumi Chawan is finished in a deep navy-black glaze, over which bursts of yellow, white, red, and blue splash and pool like petals caught mid-bloom. No two areas of colour repeat in quite the same way, giving the bowl a painterly, one-of-a-kind quality — a striking centrepiece for matcha, with a warm brown-toned rim and footring grounding the design.
Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasami-yaki) hails from the town of Hasami in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, with a ceramic tradition spanning over 400 years. Today, Hasami remains one of Japan's top three regions by shipment volume for everyday tableware, valued for its durable, easy-to-use porcelain and its consistency from piece to piece.
