Ginga (銀河), meaning galaxy, for the white flecks scattered through the glaze like stars.

The Ginga Yunomi is an upright teacup with soft horizontal ridges around it. A glossy black glaze runs around the top, with olive-gold drips falling from it over a warm brown body flecked with white, and the foot is bare brown clay. Inside, rust-brown rings circle down to the centre. It holds 160 ml. It matches our Ginga Katakuchi Chawan, and two of these cups come with it in the Ginga Japanese Tea Set.

Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasami-yaki) hails from the town of Hasami in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, with a ceramic tradition spanning over 400 years. Today, Hasami remains one of Japan's top three regions by shipment value for everyday tableware, valued for its durability and the wide variety of glazes its potters use.

Made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.

Volume: 160 ml

Please note: glaze, colour and capacity vary slightly from cup to cup.

Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea cups.

Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
