Ginga (銀河), meaning galaxy, for the speckled band that runs through the dark glaze like stars. A spouted matcha bowl and two cups, glazed alike.
The Ginga Japanese Tea Set puts our Ginga Katakuchi Chawan together with two matching cups. All three pieces have a glossy black-brown glaze with a band of fine olive and cream speckles, white flecks across the body and an unglazed brown clay foot, and inside each one a rust-brown swirl sits at the centre. The katakuchi (片口) is a matcha bowl with a pouring lip, and the cups are upright, with soft horizontal ridges around them. Whisk matcha in the bowl, then pour it into the cups to share.
Set includes:
- 1 x Ginga Katakuchi Chawan (spouted matcha bowl), 340 ml
- 2 x Ginga yunomi (teacups), 160 ml each, only sold in this set
Hasami ware (波佐見焼, Hasami-yaki) hails from the town of Hasami in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, with a ceramic tradition spanning over 400 years. Today, Hasami remains one of Japan's top three regions by shipment value for everyday tableware, valued for its durability and the wide variety of glazes its potters use.
Made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.
Bowl: 340 ml, 12.8 cm across, 7.2 cm tall
Cups: 160 ml each
Please note: glaze and colour vary slightly from piece to piece.
Ships Australia-wide and worldwide, with free Australian shipping on orders over $100. See the full range of Japanese tea sets.
Each piece is made by hand, so the glaze on yours will differ from the photograph. That variation is the character of the piece, not a flaw.
