Katakuchi (片口) — a traditional spouted bowl, its pouring lip as functional as it is sculptural.
The Oribe Katakuchi is finished in a deep, glossy Oribe glaze — a rich copper-green synonymous with Mino ware since the 16th century, when tea master Furuta Oribe championed bold, irregular forms over classical symmetry. Fine vertical ribbing runs the length of the body, catching the light against the glaze's dark pooling tones, while the rim rises and falls in a soft, wave-like line that culminates in a generous pouring spout.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) originates in the historic Mino Province, now Gifu Prefecture in central Japan, with a ceramic tradition spanning over 1,300 years. Oribe ware, one of its most celebrated styles, is prized for its expressive glazes and deliberately asymmetrical forms — a reflection of the wabi-sabi philosophy of finding beauty in the natural and imperfect.
