Iwakoke (岩苔) — meaning mossy rock, the image this bowl's glaze naturally evokes.
The Iwakoke Chawan pairs an earthy, speckled brown glaze with a vivid green glaze that sweeps down one side like moss spreading over stone, deepening to blue-grey where the two glazes meet. The effect is quiet and organic — no two bowls will show quite the same pattern, making each piece a small study in the wabi-sabi philosophy of finding beauty in the natural and imperfect.
Mino ware (美濃焼, Mino-yaki) originates in the historic Mino Province, now Gifu Prefecture in central Japan, with a ceramic tradition spanning over 1,300 years. It remains one of Japan's most celebrated pottery styles, prized for its rich variety of glazes, textures, and techniques.
