Syuiro Kyusu, Japanese Teapot

$92.00

Syuiro (朱色) — meaning vermilion, the warm red-orange tone that gives this teapot its name.

The Syuiro Kyusu showcases the warm, earthy vermilion tone Tokoname clay is famous for, left largely unglazed to let the natural colour of the iron-rich clay shine through. Simple and understated, it's a classic example of traditional kyusu craftsmanship, equally at home for daily brewing or as a quiet, elegant addition to a tea collection.

Tokoname ware (常滑焼, Tokoname-yaki) originates in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan's oldest and most renowned ceramic traditions, dating back over 1,000 years. Present-day Tokoname is best known for its kyusu teapots, made from an iron-rich clay valued for its heat retention and porous qualities, said to soften and enhance the taste of tea. Each piece embodies the wabi-sabi philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and nature.

Made in Tokoname, Japan.

Volume: 320 ml

Please note: The shape, colour, and capacity of each kyusu may vary slightly, a testament to the individuality and craftsmanship behind every piece.
