The cup is speckled off-white on one side and a soft slate blue-grey on the other, the two glazes meeting in a clean diagonal, with the blue-grey carried through to the inside. The saucer is a five-petal flower shape in the same blue-grey with a fine brown edge, and the cup sits in a raised ring at its centre. This shape is called an ippuku-wan (一服碗), a bowl for a single serving, and it takes tea or coffee alike: a bowl of hojicha in the afternoon, a small matcha latte, or a serving of usucha for a guest.
